Last Thursday was my second running of the Beacon Hill Fell Race on the Simonside Hills just outside Rothbury. It’s categorised as BS race, and I think it’s a great course, interesting climbs throughout the race and a great descent to finish on.
For me the race went quite well, not great, but not too bad either. I managed to shave a few minutes off last years time. I would have liked to get in under 1hr and think I probably would have, however, my leg speed on the flat was not up to much and I got a major cramp about halfway round which reduced my speed to a trot for a good few minutes.
All in all it was a really well organised race with a splendid route and only 45 mins drive from home – bonus! The weather was great, performance not bad, overall it was a great night out on the hill.
