2014 Running (Scafell Pike Marathon Training)

So, it’s been a while since a post on running…

At the end of last year I did the Simonside Cairns fell race in Rothbury. It’s a brilliant ~11m course, I posted a mid pack finish (performance possibly not helped by drinks the night before…). Into the New Year running was pretty limited and I only started running in earnest at the start of March. Since then I have put a lot of miles in on the footpaths north of Newcastle in and around Big Waters lake and the Havannah and Three Hills Nature Reserve. A typical route shown  below:

Newcastle Run

I’ve also hit the Lakes several times since March. Mainly making use of Blencathra’s relatively close proximity (I wish I could spend £2 million on buying this bad boy). I’ve had a few interesting outings to note including nearly being blow off Sharps Edge. I spent Easter weekend at Ennerdale, running the skyline, what a weekend! Great weather, reasonable company (Ashley Willerton) and a decent YHA to stay in.

Since then I’ve spent a lot of time on the Scafell Massif, a lot of time. I’ve summited Scafell Pike 7 times since April. All of which has lead me to competing in the Scafell Pike Marathon on June the 15th! I’m running for Anthony Nolan, so if you wish to sponsor me please do so here. I’m running because I will hopefully enjoy it, but also an old school friend recently passed away as result of blood cancer and I wanted to do what I could to help prevent this happening to others.

A few pics from the trails..
